Summertime Chicago Engagement Photos, Jumping Into Lake // Alex + Julia
Engagement photos on North Ave Pier in early summer, leading into couple jumping into the lake.
— One of my most favorite evenings, spent in the hustling city of Chicago with Alex and Julia. Full of walking the streets of their home, grabbing a glass of wine at their favorite cocktail rooftop bar, spontaneously jumping into the lake at North Ave Pier, and ending the night eating dinner together at one of their favorite burger joints. I was giddy and full of excitement the whole flight out there, and it all lived up to everything I could’ve dreamed of. I think these are some of my favorite images to date, because it feels so them. You can see the genuine joy and love in their eyes and the way they look at each other. Like I can physically feeeeel that summer love feeling. Coming into shoots as clients and leaving as best friends is one of my favorite things about this job that I will never take for granted. I wrote a little snippet in my journal that weekend, full of so many emotions.
“…Every time I travel I get so emotional that this is my job, like without a doubt get teary eyed in some cafe or my rental car. I feel like I tend to get so caught up in the craziness of flight delays and finding couches to crash on and the thought that I’ve probably slept more on planes than in my bed this past month, but then I feel this exact feeling and I immediately get a wave of crazy emotion that this is my job and the people make it all the more better. Like I get to fly across the country to sit on their couch as they finish getting ready, go to their favorite rooftop cocktail bars, drive around their city, crash their dinner date night and just see their life, capturing it all through my eyes… and for that I am forever thankful. Just will never be over it.”
I will be photographing their love at their wedding this spring out in California, and I couldn’t be more over the moon.
